Job Description:  

  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication usage and storage.
  • Assess the identity, strength, and purity of medications.
  • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs.
  • Compound simple compounds and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors, dentists, and veterinarians by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients or oversee these activities. Ensuring medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose-this may include tablets, capsules, ointments, creams”.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Teach pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure.
  • Advise customers on the selection of over-the-counter medications, medication brands, medical equipment and health-care supplies, durable medical equipment, and home healthcare supplies. 
  • Provide specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure.
  • Advise patients about diet, exercise, or stress management.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.
  • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions. 
  • Maintain secure records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs. 
  • Provide specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure. 
  • Offer health promotion and prevention activities, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure or diabetes monitors.
  • Use Medication Therapy Management (MTM) to manage patients with continued evaluation of medication usage, adherence, and related issues.  Communicate with prescribers to provide comprehensive care.  
  • Administer immunizations to customers. 
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction, promoting pharmacy business through growth plan.  
  • Supervise and train Pharmacy Technicians and personnel. 
  • Complete third-party insurance forms and other paperwork

Minimum Requirements: 

Degree: 

  • Doctor of Pharmacy with grade 3.0 or higher.

Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Active Ohio Board of Pharmacy License.
  • Active Ohio Controlled Substance License.
  • Immunization Training Certificate
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED course completion certificate

Experience and Skills:  

As almost all pharmacy interns are in pharmacy school we allow for the 12 months of experience in retail pharmacy to be fulfilled as a part-time pharmacy intern working minimum of 10 hours a week under the direct supervision of the pharmacist to include the following experience:  

  • Processing prescriptions, selecting the appropriate medication, and measurement of proper dosages under the direction of the pharmacist.
  • Pharmacy record keeping, 
  • Pharmacy medication inventory control and reordering of medications, 
  • Simple compounding. 
  • Counseling patients about the proper use of their medications.
  • Administer vaccines and follow up on patients. 
  • Doctor of Pharmacy/PharmD with grade 3.0 or higher.
